Consistently recognized as a leading multi-family office advisor in Canada, our client seeks to bring on board a senior client advisory professional to play a leading role as it positions itself for future growth.
Scope of Position
The Senior Vice President, Client Advisory, will lead client relationships and drive investment and tax planning strategies, focusing on high-value clients. As a senior member of the leadership team, this role will strategize and deliver top-tier client service, manage complex financial strategies, and mentor junior team members.
The position also involves leading strategic projects to enhance firm operations and contributing to our client’s growth through business development. This role requires expertise in investment management, tax planning, and family office dynamics, with a focus on private/taxable investors.
Functional Tasks
The Senior Vice President – Client Advisory is responsible for:
Client Management:
• Senior advisory on a client team working with a group of clients.
• Understand the value proposition the firm brings to each individual client and deliver excellence in terms of client service standards.
• Lead and manage all aspects of client relationships, including high-value clients, by overseeing work with associates and the operations team while acting as the primary contact with a deep understanding of clients’ current and future needs.
• Set overall strategy for clients. Proactively identify opportunities and needs of clients and ensure implementation with your team.
• Be a “go to, sought out person” for all team members for advice and direction on complex client matters and be a respected and trusted member of the client team.
• Ensure client work is delivered within deadlines as established by the firm and by clients.
• Manage all elements of compliance related to a client.
• Deliver excellence and a best-in-class service.
• Assist in handling any challenges and opportunities in client relationships.
Investment and financial planning:
• Meets with clients and gathers information on their financial situation (e.g. goals, assets, liabilities, investments, retirement plans) that serves as a basis for creating a financial/investment plan.
• Acts as an internal subject matter expert on estate planning, retirement planning, income taxation, asset allocation, risk management, education planning and insurance needs.
• Contribute to the firm’s proficiency in investment research and tax planning including development and/or review of client strategies, as well as other related projects. Stay current in financial planning developments and trends; maintain all continuing education for licenses and certifications.
Management Presence:
• Provide leadership and set examples for all other client staff with respect to client and other firm responsibilities.
• Contribute to the firm by leading teams on various projects to improve the firm outside of your client responsibilities.
• Mentor team members and junior staff to develop technical skills (investment, tax, etc.), client management capabilities, and deliverables, while consistently demonstrating and instilling the firm’s core values to ensure outstanding service.
• Build and maintain a strong network to develop new business and engage high quality professionals for clients.
• Champion the organization internally by leveraging opportunities to bring teams together and creating a strong corporate culture.
• Identify opportunities to evolve employer brand, and work with the HR and Marketing teams in supporting the organization’s goals of attracting and retaining top talent.
• Invest in building connections and relationships with members across the firm.
Client Growth:
• Lead initiatives for the firm to become more efficient in the process of managing clients.
• Identify areas of industry growth/change and act as an expert in certain areas of knowledge.
• Identify opportunities for client acquisition, assist business development team in growing the client base through assisting during prospecting phase.
• Meet with potential/new clients and demonstrate how they can benefit and take advantage of the various financial planning services available.
• Use networking skills to identify and attract high net worth clients and develop focused strategies to create and expand relationships.
Accountability & Driving Results:
• Adopt a client-centric perspective to guide your team in developing tailored client strategies, while leading associates and directors in managing tasks and taking full responsibility for the team’s deliverables.
• Review work for accuracy and ensure it reflects the firm’s standard of quality.

Preferred Experience / Education
• Undergraduate degree and CFA, CPA or CA designation is a requirement. Required to be licensed by the OSC as an Advising Representative. 15+ years’ post accreditation experience.
• Strong knowledge of the wealth/investment management industry with family office or private family experience being preferred (taxable investors).
• Knowledge and experience in the areas of investment management and tax (personal, trust, and corporate).
• Superior communication skills with an ability to effectively simplify complex financial concepts for those with minimal understanding of finance while building trust, rapport and credibility with clients and co-workers.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills required to examine, interpret and evaluate data and exercise good judgement to make value-added asset mix, allocations and portfolio construction decisions.
• Strong background in Canadian tax/estate planning, with experience in implementing and managing complex strategies.
• Experience in managing complex family dynamics, assisting families with significant life decisions, managing conflict and setting overall strategy.
• Experience with building investment strategies for private/taxable investors including evaluating and selecting investment managers and developing asset allocation strategies.
• Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of investment management, analytics and portfolio management.
• Detail oriented, team player with experience working collaboratively in an entrepreneurial and dynamic environment.
• Self-starter, high level of initiative, can work independently and multi-task.
