Our client now seeks a VP Business Intelligence & Data Management to serve a critical role in its Canadian operations.
 

Position Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the vision, strategy and delivery of an enterprise business intelligence and data delivery transformation programme. The role is a key enabler in deriving business value from the organization’s information assets, improving the customer and employee experience, corporate growth and overall profitability.
The successful candidate will be a passionate leader who will design, shape and implement data governance and management strategies, utilizing best in class data management tools, platforms and integration.
A critical enabler for the firm’s ongoing digital transformation, the ideal candidate will be an expert in analytics and modeling with strong software engineering skills and will have extensive experience in designing, executing, and overseeing data-driven initiatives.
Reporting to the local CIO while collaborating across the global IT organization, the successful candidate will manage a team of highly capable and motivated individuals comprised of internal employees and vendor partners together with the budget appropriate to deliver excellence.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy
  • Champion the value of data as a strategic asset ensuring executive stakeholder alignment
  • Communicate and evangelize the BI and Data vision, strategy and objectives across the organization
  • Shape, lead and drive the Business Intelligence and Data strategies and roadmaps in support of each business unit
  • Formulate and align Business Intelligence capabilities to global enterprise and local business strategies
  • Formulate and align Business Intelligence capabilities aligning with global and local architectural practices and development methodologies
Delivery
  • Deliver solutions which add measurable and specific business value and are consistent with best practice BI methodologies, approaches and architectural standards
  • Drive a culture of customer focused innovation and accountability using Agile methodologies
  • Develop roadmaps in collaboration with key business partners to understand their objectives, key processes, information flows, metrics and business challenges
  • Develop and execute strategies to work with Data Owners to ensure clear understanding of roles and responsibilities
  • Identify and prioritize analytical gaps between the current-state and industry best practices in partnership with Architecture while implementing operational “quick-wins” to demonstrate competency and generate immediate business value
  • Provide program and project level oversight for analytics initiatives; monitor budgets, timelines and quality of deliverables across projects in the portfolio
Leadership and Accountability
  • Fosters innovation culture and empower teams to take calculated risks and continuously improve skills, efficiency and quality of work
  • Possess the ability to explain highly technical concepts and complicated issues to a non-technical, executive-level audience, conveying challenges and solutions
  • Establish results-oriented goals and KPI's that which are fully aligned with both the strategy and operational plans.
  • Mentor and encourage BI personnel to collaborate, aspire to and deliver best-in-class services in a professional and customer-focused manner
Innovation
  • Provide thought leadership to drive innovation in the areas of BI, analytics, data warehousing, MDM and data governance
  • Build awareness of analytics through internal workshops and presentations
  • Continuously take a forward-looking view by researching, validating and proposing new and industry best-practice technical and functional solutions
  • Encourage the BI team and ultimately the business to think beyond current practices and boundaries
  • Champion the shift to delivery of Business Intelligence as a service

Preferred Experience / Education

  • 10+ years of IT executive level leadership experience
  • Leadership style that exhibits strategic thinking, high energy, collaboration, direct communication and results orientation
  • Strong communication skills, ability to collaborate with key business and IT stakeholders to develop recommendations, achieve buy-in and achieve measurable results;
  • Demonstrable track record of success in the development and deployment of data management, data governance, data analytics and business intelligence projects and programs
  • Strong commercial orientation with the ability to interpret business requirements and translate those into actionable and practical technology strategies;
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in business, math, computer science is required with a Masters or Doctorate degree in data analytics, data science or statistics (or related field) is highly preferred.
